Trigeminal nerve of the Alligator

The trigeminal nerve is the largest among the cranial nerve which controls the ophthic, maxillary and mandibullar sensory. Branches into three divisions from the Trigeminal ganglion, Maxillary (V2) and Mandibular (V3) run through inside of the bone and reach the integumentary sensory organs (the dark spots on the skin surface) by traveling through the small pits on the nasal region of the skull. Crocodilians acquire the high sensitivity with this nerve structure.
